*ensure that the contact information is correct (double check).
*address the school contact accurately (double check).
*personalize your email when possible to communicate your genuine interest (be thoughtful and clear).

PLEASE INCLUDE IN SUBJECT LINE OF EMAIL:  FIELD EXPERIENCE HOURS @ LEEWARD CC

Aloha [Name of Cooperating School's Principal, if principal please address as such],

My name is [Your name] and I am currently a student in the Associate in Arts in Teaching (AAT) program at Leeward Community College. As a requirement for my degree program I must complete approximately [number of hours needed/preferred/required] field experience hours per course. These hours will allow me the opportunity to observe strategies and skills that I am presently learning in ED [Course Number], [Course Title].  I would greatly appreciate an opportunity to work with one of your classroom teachers as an observer and volunteer. I hope to be able to provide assistance to students in any capacity the classroom teachers deem appropriate.

[If appropriate, write a paragraph including a few sentences about why you chose this school.  Also, feel free to include a brief introduction to your experiences, background, and career interests (*or resume) that may be valuable information for school contact persons]

For this Field Experience, I am required to do the following for ED [Course Number], [Course Title] as outlined here: http://teach.leeward.hawaii.edu/review-field-experience-assignments.html.  Please feel free to contact my course instructor [Instructor's name, Instructor's email]

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. I am excited about this opportunity.

Thank you so much for your time [Or any salutation you prefer],

[Your name]

Should you require any further questions or clarification please feel free to contact the individual instructor or the Teacher Education Program faculty and staff: http://teach.leeward.hawaii.edu/faculty--staff.html

*Note: The HIDOE HR department considers UH Leeward-CC students as volunteers, and thus, the Teacher Education Program does not currently require background checks.
